Cameron is set to begin shooting Avatar in april. The Hollywood Reporter hast just announced that James Cameron will be returning to feature film making for the first time since Titanic in 1997. Numerous speculations have been made throughout years on which movie would be Cameron's return to feature length film making. Although many unconfirmed reports have surfaced, this time it seems to be definent. The movie begins principal photography in April, and the lead, australian actor Sam Worthington, has already been cast. Worthington plays an ex-marine soldier who unwillingly as an assignment is sent to exploit a faraway planet and gets caught up in a battle with its local inhabitants. Being a sci-fi story Digital Domain and James Cameron are planning groundbreaking movie making and cinematogrophy techniques. The movie will blend real life actors and CGI worlds to an extent never seen before. Although movies like The Lord of the Rings and The Polar Express have used these techniques in the past, Avatar will take them to a whole new level. The movie is planned for a summer 2009 release and Cameron is hoping that movie theaters at that time generally will be equipped with the 3-D system which is necessary for the full benefit of the sophisticated technology of Avatar. Peter Jackson's Weta Workshop which also did the effects for the The Lord of the Rings-trilogy will handle the visual extravaganza. The movie is budgeted to a close $200 million. Well, they aren't exactly spoilers, since spoilers implicate that you actually have something very concrete to reveal which, I will be the first to admit, is not the case. But I still have some interesting facts regarding Cameron's next project. Ever since Cameron saw Peter Jackson's The Return of the King - the last installment in the Lord of the Rings-trilogy he has been itching to get back on directing a new megapic employing the latest innovations in CGI available. This time around Hollywood is in a state of guessing just what will be the the next feature of this selfaclaimed King of the World. Cameron has already stated that he will film in High definition 3D - the same equipment used to film his Titanic documentary Ghosts of the Abyss. Apparently Cameron has told reporters that his movie is a new big, blockbuster science-fiction pic that takes place in the near future with lots of wild action and emotional journeys as well. Well it sounds like the foundation for another hit from Cameron. Apparently Lightstorm Entertainment has about 20 projects lined up for Cameron to direct. He won't be doing the Godspeed which will star Harrison Ford but Cameron plans to produce that one. According to most Hollywood analysts the new feature will most likely be Battle Angel Alita based on the popular japanese comic book, but we will have to see about that. As I said no real spoilers yet. According to Rae Sanchini, head of Lightstorm Entertainment, they are planning Janurary 2005 as a possible start date for principal photography, which means the movie might be ready for a 2006 summer release. But if we know Cameron, and we like to believe we do, he'll probably have cost overruns and thus extending his shooting schedule once again. 01/22/04 According to Ain't It Cool News Cameron has dropped a few quite surprising hints on his next movie at a Terminator 2 screening in Hollywood. According to people attending the screening Cameron said that his next feature would be a big hollywood studio picture. It'll feature the latest effects in CGI and will be shot entirely in HD 3-D, which was also used shooting Ghosts of the Abyss. Allthough this is not confirmed CNN and Variety have also mentioned Cameron's new feature, so an official statement will probably appear any time.
